Keep your eyes peeled for Dorothy dancing down The Grove or Matilda marching down Brook Street this May Day when the red curtains draw back on the long-awaited parade!
Local schools will be joining together to walk in the parade dressed up as their favourite show and musical stars and we’re extremely excited to see their creative and colourful outfits.
Last year the Ilkley Carnival parade saw many participants from local schools and organisations march along The Grove, dazzling audiences with their “TV programmes” inspired outfits.
Spectators witnessed David Attenborough dancing through the streets, judges from Bake Off bouncing down the road and Thomas the Tank engine chuffing along The Grove as they led visitors down to the carnival showground.
Anytime Fitness Ilkley will be sponsoring our parade for the second year running. The local gym will be encouraging visitors to put their best foot forward on the showground field by hosting a range of fun activities and handing out free gym passes on the day.
On Monday 6 May, roads close at 11am – 12.15 as the parade starts its procession at 11am from The Grove, down Brook Street and then into Denton Road arriving at the East Holmes Field carnival showground at around 11.45am.
